Antelope Canyon: Breathless And Mystical Place
It is one of the most visited slot canyons in the American Southwest, located near Lake Powell, on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Entering a place like Antelope Canyon was like entering a cathedral for older Navajos. They usually paused before going in, trying to set their mind in the right frame.
Antelope Canyon is visited exclusively through guided tours led by authorized tour guides. It is partly caused by the fact that rains during monsoon season can quickly flood the canyon. Also, as the attraction is located on Navajo land, they don’t want to let tourists run wild and ruin such a masterpiece of nature. By the way, it has become accessible only since 1997, when the Navajo Tribe made it a Navajo Tribal Park.
Many take tours there to make some really incredible shots. Cracks in the ceiling allow light to illuminate the weathered rock surfaces with spectacular results. This is really a once-in-a lifetime experience and you must do it at least once if you get in the area.
